The Town of Leesburg maintains official social media accounts to share information of interest to residents, businesses, visitors, and the general public.  While the Town encourages public engagement through comments and the sharing of posts, individuals are solely responsible for the content they submit. Comments posted on the Town’s social media accounts do not represent the official views, positions, or policies of the Town of Leesburg, its officers, or employees.

The Town considers all its social media accounts to be moderated online discussion forums. Designated Town staff regularly monitor these accounts and may request that comments be edited or removed if they violate this policy or the social media platform’s commenting rules/community standards. If such a request is ignored, the Town reserves the right to hide or remove the comment without further notice. Currently, comments subject to removal include the following:

• Profane or vulgar language
• Abusive, threatening, or harassing language directed at a specific individual
• Content promoting, fostering, or perpetuating illegal discrimination
• Spam, irrelevant links, or commercial solicitations (products, services, events, etc., not affiliated with the Town)
• Messages encouraging illegal, dangerous, or destructive activity
• Sexual, lewd, obscene, or indecent content
• Posts compromising the safety or security of the public, public systems, or private individuals
• Comments violating local, state, or federal laws

The Town reserves the right to amend the above list at any time.

All content posted on these accounts, including comments, is considered a public record and is subject to the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Comments may be removed without prior notice if they threaten public safety or interfere with emergency communications.
