Fire Hydrant Tampering
It is illegal to tamper with or open a fire hydrant without a permit from the Utilities Department. All withdrawals from Town fire hydrants must be accomplished through a water meter and backflow prevention device. All town-rented hydrant meters are dark blue in color, like the examples shown below.
The meter must be attached to the hydrant during use. If you do not see a dark blue hydrant meter, or see a meter of another color, or suspect tampering or misuse of a fire hydrant, please report it via our online form or call the Utilities Department immediately! During normal business hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5:00pm), please call 703-771-2750. After 5:00pm and on weekends, call the Leesburg Police Department non-emergency number at 703-771-4500.
