Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
As developed by the Westinghouse National Issues Center, the definition of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), is “the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, and an improvement in the equality of life.”

The goal of CPTED is to reduce the opportunity for crime to occur. It is a series of design principles that, when properly employed, serve to eliminate criminal behavior and improve the quality of life through the reduction of fear of crime. This reduction in criminal opportunities is achieved by employing physical design features and space management strategies that discourage criminal activity, while at the same time encouraging the legitimate use of the location.

CPTED surveys conducted by the Crime Prevention Specialist.  They are offered for both businesses and residential properties.   CPTED can is best applied in the planning stages of a property.  Contact the Crime Prevention Specialist to have your plans reviewed.
