(Ages 4-12) Basketball is a great way to teach your child the value of team work.  Learning how to work well with others towards a common goal is a valuable life skill on and off the court.

This class will teach the basics of the sport including shooting, dribbling, and passing.  The kids will be grouped according their age, and the basket’s height will be adjusted appropriately. The goal of this class is to teach our little ballers fundamental skills and techniques that will improve their overall performance on the court. At the end of the session - scrimmages will be held to debut their new and improved skills.

Cross Country

(Ages 10-14) Did you know that over 1 billion pairs of running shoes are sold worldwide every year?!  Long distance running is one of the best ways to get those endorphins pumping, keep fit and build stamina.  I can already hear “Eye of the Tiger” playing in the background. This class is a great opportunity to get some cross country and running training by using both paved trails and Ida Lee Park’s scenic cross country trails. The class will cover technique, form, distance & hill training, nutrition, and fitness subjects.

(Ages 12 and up) Fencing is one of only four sports to be included in every modern Olympic Games since the first in 1896. It was also a sport in the original Olympic Games in ancient Greece.  Join our Fencing course here at Ida Lee and be a part of history.

This course provides for both supervised and coached assaults, bouts by experienced fencers, as well as training for beginner fencers. For beginners, this course introduces the fencer to the French school of foil fencing. The five learning objectives are safety, basic movement, the simple attack, the parry riposte, and the compound attack. Lessons for all levels will consist of group instruction, supervised exchange drills and assaults. Students will need to provide their own equipment by the 4th week of class. You will need to have a French standard foil, mask, glove, and practice jacket. Please call 703-777-1368 for locations to purchase equipment.

(Ages 6-10) Here is a chance for kids to come out and learn about the game of lacrosse. Learn the techniques for scooping, cradling, passing, catching, and shooting. Practice the rules of the game in a fun, non-competitive environment. Feel free to have your child bring their own stick or we can provide one for them.
