About the Board 

The Leesburg Town Council has established a Towing Advisory Board in an effort to promote uniformity, transparency, and fairness of towing services initiated by the Leesburg Police Department.

The objective of the Towing Advisory Board is to determine whether a contract or a Town ordinance is the most appropriate method for regulating police-initiated towing services by the Leesburg Police Department. The Board will draft the proposed language and structure for either method, then advise the Town Council on the Board’s decision.

Police-initiated towing includes any tow requested by the Leesburg Police Department in response to a call for service, including vehicle crashes, disabled vehicles, abandoned vehicles, or other incidents requiring the removal of a vehicle from the roadway. Towing conducted on private property that is not initiated as a result of a call for service to the Leesburg Police Department is outside the scope of the Towing Advisory Board. The Board’s recommendations would apply only to police-directed towing initiated by the Leesburg Police Department and will not include towing requests made by other public safety agencies.

Become a Board Member

The Leesburg Police Department is searching for interested Leesburg residents, landowners, and business owners to join the Towing Advisory Board. Members are required to attend monthly board and commission meetings. Prospective board members must not be a full-time employee with the Town of Leesburg.
