About the Commission

The mission of the Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) is to promote and protect the environmental interests of the town.

The Commission reviews Town planning and policy documents as they relate to the environment, conducts an annual environmental awards program, and advises the Town Council on town environmental concerns.

The Commission and Community

Each year, the Sustainability Commission hosts a table at the Flower and Garden Festival to engage with residents and gather community input. At the 2026 festival, visitors were invited to answer two questions:

  1. What do you do to live more sustainably?
  2. What should the Town prioritize to become more sustainable?

Participants shared their ideas and suggestions on the Sustainability Tree, creating a visual display of community feedback.

The Commission has since organized and reviewed the responses from the Sustainability Tree and continues to evaluate the feedback. The infographic below organizes all the feedback form visitors into categories for review. The findings are being shared with other relevant commissions and boards, and the Commission is exploring opportunities to incorporate community recommendations into its ongoing work and future sustainability initiatives.

Leesburg residents said planting, recycling, and composting are the top environmental priorities based on 245 responses.

Leesburg Loves the Environment!
