Check Your Toilet for Leaks — Save Water and Money
Did you know a small toilet leak can waste hundreds of gallons of water each month? It’s one of the most common — and easiest to fix — household water issues. In this quick video, we’ll show you how to check your toilet for leaks using simple tools you already have at home.
What Is a Leak Adjustment?
We understand that unexpected leaks can be costly, and we're here to help.
If you’ve experienced a water leak that resulted in unusually high water usage, you may be eligible for a leak adjustment under our leak adjustment policy.
A leak adjustment is a partial credit applied to your water and/or sewer bill when you've repaired a verified leak that caused excessive water usage per Town Code.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a leak adjustment:
- Leak adjustments are only for eligible repairs of the water service between the water meter and the building. Otherwise, all water registered through the meter is billed, regardless of whether a leak occurred or whether a notice was received.
- The leak must be repaired in a timely manner after detection or notification. An adjustment may be denied if the property owner or tenant has knowledge of the leak and fails to complete timely repairs.
- The customer must provide proof of repair, such as:
- A plumber's invoice or receipt
- Letter from contractor detailing work was completed on water service line with date of completion
- A detailed explanation if self-repaired with receipts
- Adjustments are typically not granted for:
- Leaks due to negligence or lack of maintenance
- Water running at home from a toilet, hose bib connection, or other home source
- Irrigation or pool-related leaks
- Leaks in vacant or unoccupied properties

- You are typically billed your normal average, and only the excess usage is adjusted.
- Sewer charges are also adjusted if applicable.
How Often Can I Request an Adjustment?
