Check Your Toilet for Leaks — Save Water and Money
Did you know a small toilet leak can waste hundreds of gallons of water each month? It’s one of the most common — and easiest to fix — household water issues. In this quick video, we’ll show you how to check your toilet for leaks using simple tools you already have at home.
Important Information About Usage Notifications
While we may occasionally notify customers of potential leaks or unusual water usage, these notifications are provided as a courtesy only and are not guaranteed.
The Town is not obligated to monitor individual water usage or provide notification, and does not guarantee the identification or communication of all leaks or irregularities.
Please be advised that:
- Our water meter reading system may flag accounts with unusual usage patterns, but it does not monitor individual plumbing systems and may miss anomalies, smaller or intermittent leaks.
- It is the customer’s responsibility to regularly check for leaks, monitor usage, and maintain household plumbing.
- The Town is not liable for any damages, charges, or losses resulting from undetected leaks or delayed notification.
- Leak adjustments are only for eligible repairs of the water service between the water meter and the building. Otherwise, all water registered through the meter is billed, regardless of whether a leak occurred or whether a notice was received.
- To request a leak adjustment, submit your request here.
For assistance with monitoring your water usage, we recommend that customers regularly monitor their bills for unexpected changes and consider checking water devices such as toilets and irrigation systems for leaks.
If you suspect a leak or have concerns about your water usage, please contact our customer service team at watersewer@leesburgva.gov or 703-771-2713 Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm excluding holidays.
