Alarm Registration

The Town of Leesburg participates in the Loudoun County False Alarm Reduction Program, which is designed to reduce unnecessary emergency responses caused by accidental or faulty alarm activations.

All security alarm systems—residential and commercial—within the Town of Leesburg must be registered through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office False Alarm Reduction Unit (FARU). Registration is free and ensures that emergency responders have accurate contact and system information in case your alarm is triggered.

False Alarm Ordinance
Under the Loudoun County False Alarm Ordinance, each alarm user is allowed two (2) false alarms per calendar year without penalty.  False alarm fee information can be found at False Alarm Fees.

How to Register
Alarm registration can be completed online through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office FARU - Visit the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office False Alarm Reduction Unit website at https://www.loudoun.gov/4560/False-Alarm-Reduction-Unit.

Help Prevent False Alarms
Most false alarms are preventable. Common causes include:

  • User error
  • Unsecured doors or windows
  • Improperly maintained equipment
  • Pets or environmental factors triggering motion detectors

By keeping your system in good working order and ensuring all users are trained, you can help reduce false alarms and avoid fines—while ensuring officers are available for true emergencies.
