About the Program
The Leesburg Police Department’s Civil Disturbance Unit (CDU) is a specialized team trained to respond to large-scale incidents that present heightened public safety risks. The unit is designed to manage volatile situations while protecting constitutional rights, maintaining public order, and ensuring the safety of the community.

The Role of the Unit
CDU members receive advanced training in crowd management, coordinated response tactics, and de-escalation strategies. The unit is activated during demonstrations, civil unrest, and other high-risk events that require a structured and disciplined response. Although CDU officers maintain their regular assignments, they are prepared to deploy when needed to restore order, protect life and property, and support other operational units.
