About the Program
The Leesburg Police Department’s Field Training Officer (FTO) Program is designed to prepare new officers for independent duty through structured, hands-on training. The program ensures that recruits develop the skills, knowledge, and professionalism required to serve the community safely and effectively.

The Role of the FTO Program
New officers are paired with experienced, specially trained Field Training Officers who provide daily instruction, evaluation, and mentorship. FTOs guide recruits through real-world patrol duties, emphasizing department policies, legal standards, officer safety, decision-making, and community engagement.
