The Citizens Support Team is a group of uniformed community volunteers who assist the Leesburg Police Department with special events, traffic direction, and neighborhood patrols. Acting as additional “eyes and ears” in the community, these volunteers help enhance public safety without taking any law enforcement action.

Trained by the Leesburg Police Department in traffic direction and safety techniques, team members are often called upon when needed to assist with traffic control during parades, festivals, and other events. They also respond to emergency traffic assignments during incidents such as serious crashes.  In addition to event and emergency support, Citizens Support Team members provide safety information and distribute child DNA identification kits at community events. 

Citizens Support Team Holidays with the Cops Program

The Leesburg Police Citizens Support Team’s Holidays with the Cops program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been bringing joy to Leesburg children and their families during the holiday season since 2010.

The program’s mission is to ensure that local children and their families experiencing financial hardship can enjoy a brighter holiday season. It also creates meaningful opportunities for Leesburg Police Officers to connect with the community in a personal and positive way.

Each selected child is paired with an LPD Officer, enjoys dinner with the group at a local restaurant, and then heads to Target for a special shopping trip. Using a gift card funded entirely by donations, the child picks gifts from their holiday wish list. After shopping, volunteers wrap the presents and deliver them to the children’s homes that very night.

Since its inception, Holidays with the Cops has served countless Leesburg children and their families. Beyond holiday shopping, the program has stepped in to provide critical assistance—purchasing a car for a family in need, paying utility bills, and, during the pandemic, supplying families with much-needed food and basic necessities.

This program operates solely through the generosity of Town of Leesburg employees, Leesburg Police Officers and their families, community members, and local businesses. Thanks to continued support, we can help even more children and families when they need it most. We are deeply grateful for every donor who makes this tradition possible.
