Pre-Ballet

(Ages 3-5) This is an introductory course for tots interested in ballet. The class will simplify all movements to prepare your child to participate in Ballet I.

Ballet I

(Ages 5-8) Children will learn the basics of formal ballet. Posture, positions, and style will be introduced and strengthened. Ballet is a fun way to teach your child the importance of daily physical activities. Children will be introduced to music rhythm and working basic technique.

Intermediate Ballet 

(Ages 13 & up) This class continues on from the teachings in the basic class and begins to incorporate more advanced techniques and styles. Performance opportunities may be available but are not mandatory for registrants. 

Teen/Adult Beginning Ballet

(Ages 13 & up) For teens and adults who have always wanted to take ballet but never had the chance and students who want to improve technique. Ballet is great training for gymnasts, color guard, preparing for the school musical, and more. Performance opportunities may be available but are not mandatory for registrants.

Musical Theater Dance Performance

(Ages 7-10) This class includes a ballet warm-up and choreography designed especially for the participants. The instructor will choose a short ballet, assign parts, and a special performance will be scheduled. Registrants will be responsible for and encouraged to design their costumes.

Dance Social

(Ages 16 & up) Dance the night away and learn a few new moves at our monthly dance social. This is an excellent opportunity for beginners to see all of our dances and take your first steps to learning them. For current students, the socials are a perfect opportunity to practice the skills you have learned or check out some new steps you might be interested in learning. The first hour will focus on a dance lesson, and then you get to hit the dance floor. Refreshments will be provided. No partner needed!

Swing I

(Ages 18 & up) Swing brings something different to mind for everyone. From early Big Band music to 70's beach music to 90's swing revival music, come and learn the basic East Coast Swing steps and turns that will have you dancing no matter what your music preference. No partners required.

Ballroom I

(Ages 18 & up) Learn the basic movements of ballroom dancing, including waltz, tango, mambo/cha cha through simple figures, sequences, and methods of leading and following. Expect to do some mixers, perhaps a few historical/novelty dances as well. No need for a partner. This is a great class to take with a mixed group of friends!

Cha Cha II

(Ages 18 & up) Born out of the Cuban mambo, Cha Cha is a fun, basic Latin dance. Come learn the basic patterns and techniques that you can use while dancing to a surprisingly wide array of music. No partners required.

Waltz I

(Ages 18 & up) Graceful and elegant... Learn the basic patterns and techniques of waltz that will have you gliding across the dance floor using classic and modern music. Recapture this classic style of dancing.

Rumba II

(Ages 18 & up) Sensuous and passionate, rumba is a traditional Latin wedding dance. Come and learn the basic footwork and techniques, then share this romantic dance with a special person. Partners are not required.

Line Dancing I

(Ages 18 & up) Put a little scoot in your boot and swagger in your step. Join us for our beginners’ line dancing class featuring many styles of dance including country, club, and classic. This class is suitable for anyone!

Partner Line Dancing

(Ages 18 & up) Not all line dances are done solo! This beginners' class will focus on partnered circle dances in country dance styles and more. So grab your partner to come sway, swing, and swagger with us. This class is suitable for anyone! Partners are not needed for participation.

Private Dance Lessons

(Ages 18 & up) Private lessons are available through Ida Lee Park Recreation Center. Looking to refine your technique or learn something new? Book a private lesson with Emma, who brings over 10 years of experience in Jazz, Ballet, and Contemporary, or Jason, whose 20+ year background spans Modern, Cha-Cha, Salsa, Waltz, and Line Dancing. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned dancer, they will help you move with confidence and style! Students will be placed on a waitlist and contacted regarding availability and type of preferred dance. Please fill out a Private Dance Lesson Request Form at www.idalee.org and you will be contacted regarding payment and lesson time.
