Town of Leesburg to Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of September 11 

The Town of Leesburg is offering two opportunities for the public to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The Town will hold a brief observance at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, at Freedom Park, located at 101 Colonel Grenata Circle, in Leesburg.

Mayor Kelly Burk will share a few words during the ceremony. Flowers will be provided to each person in attendance to place at the memorial in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Following the ceremony, Freedom Park will remain open to the public until 9 p.m. for those wishing to visit the memorial and reflect privately.

The Town will also hold a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. on the Town Green, located at 25 W. Market Street. The community is invited to gather for a time of reflection and remembrance. Candles will be provided for the first 100 attendees. Only LED candles will be permitted on Town Green.

The ceremony will include remarks from the mayor as well as Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat. Local performer Meisha Herron will also perform three songs as part of the evening’s observance

ANNUAL DOG SWIM 

Registration for this year's annual Dog Swim is now open. The dog-only event will take place on Saturday, September 12 at the AV Symington Aquatic Center from 9:00am - 10:30am and 11:00am to 12:30pm. 

Local pups will have the opportunity to have fun in a safe, enclosed area while swimming off leash with other dogs. All dogs must be at least six months old, legally licensed, vaccinated, and wearing a visible dog license. All exits will be gated, and a veterinarian will be on-site as a precaution. Bring a doggie dish for water, if needed. 

Space is limited and pre-registration is required with a two-dog max, per person. The cost to attend is $5.00 per person. Walk-up registration will not be available. Those attending must be at least 12 years of age with dog handlers being 16 years or older.
