Current Bills

2020 Personal Property Tax Bills:

As of January 1, 2020, Loudoun County bill and collects personal property taxes for the Town of Leesburg. Leesburg property owners will receive a single bill with County and Town taxes listed separately and will make a single payment directly to Loudoun County. 2019 & Prior Year Personal Property Tax Bills:

The Town of Leesburg continues to bill and collect supplemental and delinquent personal property tax bills for 2019 and prior tax years. Supplemental bills for 2019 personal property taxes will be mailed in mid-May. Payment on these bills will be due to the Town of Leesburg on June 19, 2020.

Customer Portal instructions - Personal Property

The Town is only collecting supplemental and delinquent personal property taxes for 2019 and prior years. Taxes for the 2020 tax year and later are billed and collected by Loudoun County. 

Errors resulting from incorrect or invalid account or bank routing numbers will be subject to a $50 fee. Please take special care to enter your account and bank routing numbers accurately.

General Information

Town of Leesburg levies a tax each calendar year on all motor vehicles, trailers, campers, mobile homes, boats, and airplanes with "situs" in the town as of January 1. A vehicle has situs for taxation in the Town of Leesburg if it is garaged, parked, or stored in the town. 

You are required to register your vehicle with Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue within 60 days of acquiring or bringing such property into the Town of Leesburg. This requirement applies to all vehicles owned by individuals or businesses, whether titled in Virginia or out of state. 

Failure to receive a bill does not relieve you of the obligation to file and pay taxes.  It is the property owner's responsibility to ensure the personal property tax billing information is correct and all updates are made through the Loudoun County Commissioner of Revenue.

Vehicle License Fee

Upon registering your vehicle with the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue's Office, you will receive a license fee bill of $25.00 for automobiles and motorcycles. This fee is due annually in addition to any personal property taxes.

Delinquent Accounts & DMV Stops

Payments not received by the due date are subject to a 10% penalty and interest at 10% per annum for any unpaid balance. The Town contracts with a third-party collection agency to enforce the collection of delinquent tax bills. The Town also uses tax liens, garnishments, DMV stops, and the Virginia Set-Off Debt program in which the Town may claim a taxpayer’s State of Virginia Income Tax refund to collect delinquent tax bills. The taxpayer is responsible for all costs of collection.
