Excavated Materials Holding and Drying Facility - Public Works Portion project information from Fiscal Year 2027 Budget (Project No. 23107)

Project Start Date: Summer 2022FY20 Excavated Materials Facility

Estimated Completion Date: Fall 2026

Project Manager: Doug Wagner (703) 771-6671

Project Description: This project provides for the design and construction of a facility to store and dry materials collected from the Town's vacuum excavation operations, storm drain vacuum operations, and street sweeper collected debris. This facility is required to meet Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) requirements. This project is a joint effort between the Department of Public Works and Capital Projects and the Department of Utilities due to multiple uses of this new facility. This project page represents the General Fund's commitment to the project. The Department of Utilities contribution is found in project number 23501. The project will reduce pollutant discharge to the environment by providing a facility that can more adequately dry and extract material from the vacuum trucks. This project will improve sustainability by removing pollutants from our streets and ensuring they do not get back into the environment by leaching back into our waterways when still containing moisture.

Project Updates:  As of July 28, 2026 - Cost estimating for the project's design solution is currently underway.
