Project Description:  This project provides for replacement of left turn signals with flashing yellow arrows and installation of high visibility signal backplates.  In 2023, the Town applied for Virginia Highway Safety Improvements Program (VHSIP) funding for the replacement of 71 left turn signals with flashing yellow arrows (FYAs) at 32 intersection locations around Town and installation of high visibility signal backplates at 30 intersection locations.  To comply with signal requirements, 28 additional 3-ball signals need to be installed at some of these intersections in coordination with the FYAs.

Project UpdatesAs of August 5, 2026 - At the July 28 meeting the Town Council approved the construction contract for the installation of the flashing yellow arrows and high visibility signal backplates.  These replacements are expected to begin in early September weather permiting.
