Traffic Signal Replacements - Poles and Mast Arms
Traffic Signal Replacements - Poles and Mast Arms project information from Fiscal Year 2027 Budget (Project No. 25305)
Project Start Date: Summer 2025
Estimated Completion Date: Summer 2030
Project Manager: Doug Wagner 703-771-6671, Chris Kohr 703-771-2743
Project Description: This project provides for the replacement of traffic signal poles, mast arms, signal heads, and other signal equipment for traffic signals that have reached the end of their useful life. The signals were all installed between 1999 and 2002, all from the same manufacturer, and have shown signs of metal fatigue. All are being inspected on a semi-annual basis until they can be replaced as part of this program. The latest inspection revealed that 23 poles will need to be replaced over the next six years. The six most critical poles will be addressed in FY 2026, followed by six in FY2027 (half of the intersection of South King Street with Davis Avenue is included in this year; the remaining half of the intersection will be funded by the developer of Crescent Parke), followed by four poles each year after.
Project Updates: As of May 20, 2026 - Easement acquisition is in progress.
