Plaza Street Sidewalk project information from Fiscal Year 2027 Budget (Project No. 25303)

Project Description: This project provides for the construction of approximately 1,000 linear feet of sidewalk along the west side of Plaza Street between the Police Headquarters and Edwards Ferry Road and revising the Traffic Signal at Edwards Ferry. This segment of sidewalk will complete a missing link and will improve pedestrian access and safety for residents of the Fields of Leesburg apartments and other residents in northeast Leesburg. This project may also reconstruct an existing waterline along Plaza Street to current standards. The design and construction of the waterline will be from Utilities funds. This project will improve sustainability in the Town by improving bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, as well as preserving existing trees and planting new trees.

Contracts: Design Engineer - Rinker Design Associates (RDA)

Project Updates:  As of August 6, 2026 – Final design is complete and land acquisition is expected to begin late summer 2026.  

On June 30, 2025 the Town Council approved a resolution supporting the public hearing design plans for this project.  The resolution included an amendment recommending the addition of bumps and/or reflectors between the bike lane and vehicle lane, contingent on available funding.  The adopted resolution is available on the Council Documents webpage.

Actualizaciones del Proyecto: A partir del 6 de agosto de 2026 –El diseño final está terminado y se prevé que la adquisición de terrenos comience a finales del verano de 2026..

El 30 de junio de 2025, el Ayuntamiento aprobó una resolución que respalda los planes de diseño de la audiencia pública para este proyecto. La resolución incluyó una enmienda que recomendaba la adición de topes o reflectores entre el carril bici y el carril vehicular, sujeto a la disponibilidad de fondos.
