Evergreen Mill Road Widening project information from Fiscal Year 2027 Budget (Project No. 15302)

Project Description: This project provides for the widening of approximately 1.3 mile of Evergreen Mill Rd from the Heritage High School entrance (south of Battlefield Pkwy) to South King St (Route 15). The existing two-lane road will be widened to a four- lane road with sidewalk on one side and a shared use path on the other. It will include utility relocation, curb, gutter, and storm drainage. The project will improve sustainability in the Town by reducing power consumption through the switch to LED streetlights, reducing light and glare by using full cutoff lights, improving pedestrian connectivity through improved ADA compliance for the curb ramps and improving water quality.

  • Design Engineer - WSP USA Inc.
  • Construction contractor - General Excavation Inc.

Project Updates: As of August 5, 2026 – The design for this project is complete, and the construction contract has been awarded to General Excavation Inc. (GEI). Construction is expected to begin in early fall. The project schedule and work zone phasing will be posted on this webpage once finalized. The Town’s Capital Projects team will also host a preconstruction community meeting before construction begins; meeting details will be posted on this webpage once the date is confirmed.

Verizon’s overhead line relocation work is currently underway along Evergreen Mill Road between South King Street and the end of Heritage High School. Two lanes of traffic are being maintained whenever possible; however, drivers may experience intermittent lane closures between Heritage High School and South King Street. Work is occurring Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Adverse weather or field conditions may require adjustments to the work schedule.  Any changes to the work schedule will be communicated via news release, Town social media channels, and posted to the Town website, www.leesburgva.gov.  It will also be posted to this webpage.
