East Market Street Improvements (Plaza Street to Fort Evans Road) project information from Fiscal Year 2026 Budget (Project No. 22302)

Project Description:  To help mitigate congestion on East Market Street, a dedicated right turn lane will be installed on westbound East Market Street between Fort Evans Road and Plaza Street. Additional improvements will be made to provide better pedestrian accommodations and improve safety along the corridor.  VDOT SMART Scale funding has been awarded to this project.

Project Updates: As of May 8, 2026 -  Survey work along East Market Street from Plaza Street to Fort Evans Road is expected to continue throughout the month of May.  Motorists may notice staff members from Rinker Design and Associates (RDA), Accumark, and Quality Counts, LLC, along the roadway.  In addition to survey work, traffic counts will also be conducted.  A public meeting for this project will be forthcoming.  Information about that meeting will be posted to this webpage.
