Airport Runway Pavement Rehabilitation project information from Fiscal Year 2027 Budget (Project No. 23003)

Project Description:  This project provides for the rehabilitation of pavement of the Airport Runway. Runway pavement condition is critical to the safe landing and takeoff for aircraft. The most recent pavement evaluation completed in 2015 recommended a combination of mill and overlay and surface treatment over the next five years to maintain and restore pavement condition. Work will include rebuilding one taxiway and complete mill and overlay of the runway, with the work to occur at night to maintain runway operation during the day. Funding is anticipated from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) for this project. This project will help to promote local businesses and airport users by ensuring the airport meets FAA standards by maintaining a well functioning runway for their use. Lighting will continue to utilize LED to continue to conserve energy.

Project Updates:  As of July 29, 2026 - Construction has started and will continue into the fall of 2026.
