Project Description: The Leesburg Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF), located south of East Market Street near Battlefield Parkway, was originally constructed in the late 1960s. It has been expanded twice and currently has a capacity of 7.5 million gallons per day.
One of the last steps in the process to treat the Town's sanitary waste is the breakdown of biodegradable material in the sewage sludge. The Town's WPCF has four anaerobic digesters for this operation. Two digesters are each currently equipped with two 40 year old floating steel covers, which have deteriorated and leak odorous gas. The purpose of the project is to provide a new floating steel cover for one of the digesters and repair one existing floating steel cover. The other two digesters will be evaluated in the future. The project also includes installation of piping so that each digester can be individually isolated.
Project Status: This project was completed in spring 2013.
