Leesburg Police Arrest Three for Gang Related Incidents

Leesburg, VA (June 16, 2020) – During the past weekend, the Leesburg Police Department received three separate reports of incidents that have since been determined to be related to the gang MS-13. 

                 

On the evening of June, 12, 2020, the first adult victim reported that he was the victim of a robbery by known suspects in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Rd NE.  The suspects assaulted the victim and stole personal property.

 

On the evening of June 13, 2020, the second adult victim reported that subsequent to an argument, he was stabbed in his leg by known suspects in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Rd NE.  The victim was transported to a local hospital with what was determined to be non-life threatening injuries.

 

On the evening of June 14, 2020, the third adult victim reported that known suspects brandished a machete at him while walking on the W&OD Trail in the area of Prosperity Ave SE.  The victim fled the area uninjured. 

 

Subsequent to an investigation by the Leesburg Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), with assistance from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, two adult males and one juvenile male were charged for these three incidents.  All suspects in this investigation have been arrested and charged, and no additional arrests are anticipated.

 

24 year old Leesburg resident Mauricio Lopez-Alvarado, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of gang participation, 1 count of robbery, and 1 count of malicious wounding by mob.  He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond. 

 

21 year old Leesburg resident Guillermo Amaya-Serrano, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of gang participation, 1 count of robbery, 1 count of malicious wounding by mob, and 1 count of brandishing.  He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond. 

 

A 16 year old male juvenile Leesburg resident, whose name cannot be released because he is a juvenile, was arrested and charged with 1 count of robbery and 1 count of malicious wounding.  He was committed to the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center. 

 

“The Leesburg Police Department has a zero tolerance for gangs in our Town.  Our Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is committed to identifying and reducing crime through community policing, crime analysis, and the utilization of both traditional and non-traditional enforcement techniques to enhance the quality of life within the Town of Leesburg for all residents and visitors.  I commend them for their swift work in this investigation,” said Chief Greg Brown.
