LPD Will Be Conducting Annual Back-to-School Traffic Safety Blitz
The Leesburg Police Department will be conducting its annual “Traffic Safety Blitz” to coincide with the start of the new 2019-2020 school year. The blitz consists of a traffic enforcement campaign that targets school zones. Electronic message boards will be deployed at different locations throughout the Town to reinforce safe driving behaviors, remind motorists that schools are back in session and to watch for children.
The enforcement will be conducted during the week of August 22nd. Leesburg Police Officers, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police, will be conducting high visibility patrols. The objective is to reduce the number of traffic crashes occurring in and around schools. Specific emphasis will be placed on speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, stop light/sign violations, seat belt usage and pedestrian violations.
During the remainder of the year, the department will target school zone areas based on statistical analysis with a goal of achieving a reduction in both personal injury and property damage crashes. Pedestrian and motorist safety is the key goal of the Leesburg Police and can only be attained with the cooperation of community members.
