Diversity Commission Seeks Participants for Depolarization Workshop
Leesburg, VA (September 25, 2018) – On Saturday, October 13, the Leesburg Diversity Commission will partner with the non-profit organization “Better Angels” to bring together liberals and conservatives, in equal numbers, for a workshop designed to help Americans clarify disagreements, reduce stereotyped thinking, and build relationships needed to find common ground.
The host organizations seek 5 to 7 “Red” (conservative-leaning) and 5 to 7 “Blue” (liberal-leaning) participants for the one-day event, which will be held in Leesburg Town Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Up to 15 observers from the public and the press are also invited to attend.
“At a time of such extreme polarization and rancor, Better Angels is bringing people together face to face—not to necessarily debate…but to better understand each other’s perspectives and bridge our widening divide,” said David Blankenhorn, president of Better Angels.
Launched in 2016, Better Angels is a bipartisan citizen’s movement to unify America. By bringing red and blue Americans together into a working alliance, Better Angels is building new ways to talk to one another, participate in public life, and influence the direction of the nation. To date, they have conducted 151 workshops nationwide, with an additional 51 events planned by the end of 2018.
Those interested in participating or observing the event are asked to register online at https://bit.ly/2PZyPne or by calling Commission Member and Organizer Pamela Butler at 703-771-0996.
