Town of Leesburg Promotes Michael Watkins to Zoning Administrator
Leesburg, VA (August 2, 2018) – The Town of Leesburg recently promoted Michael Watkins to the position of Zoning Administrator. In his new role, he will review and interpret the Town’s zoning ordinance and related regulations; work with residents, businesses, and the development community to understand community needs regarding zoning regulations; and prepare amendments to the zoning regulations as necessary to keep the Town’s ordinances reflective of community needs and zoning best practices.
Watkins joined the Town of Leesburg in July 2008 as a Senior Planner, reviewing special exception and rezoning applications. In August 2016, he became the Assistant Zoning Administrator and supervised the Town’s zoning enforcement activities. Prior to joining the Town of Leesburg, Watkins worked for a number of private engineering firms, performing survey field work, deed research, topographic and boundary survey preparation, subdivision design, site analysis, and project management. Watkins holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography with a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning from Frostburg State University and is a Certified Zoning Administrator.
“Mike is a dedicated employee who goes the extra distance to help residents and businesses understand the zoning rules and to work with them to find solutions,” said Susan Berry Hill, Director of Planning and Zoning. “I look forward to working with him in his new capacity.”
