Leesburg Police Department Promotes Bob Thompson to Lieutenant
Leesburg, VA (July 6, 2017) - Leesburg Police Chief Greg Brown announced yesterday that Bob Thompson has been promoted to Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Thompson started his career with the Leesburg Police Department in 1999 and spent seven years as a patrol officer before becoming a detective. He served initially as a General Assignment Detective and eventually specialized in Domestic Violence investigation and Crimes Against Children. After seven years as a detective, Lt. Thompson was promoted to Sergeant and has served the last three years as a patrol team supervisor.
Lt. Thompson serves as the Leesburg Police Department Emergency Response Team’s Negotiations Element Team Leader and has been a negotiator for 13 years. Prior to his law enforcement career, Lt. Thompson served four years on active duty in the U.S. Army, specializing in counterintelligence. He was deployed to Panama in support of Operation Just Cause in 1990 and to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He subsequently served over four years as a member of the Maryland Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves.
Lt. Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from The George Washington University, having graduated Magna Cum Laude. He will be assigned to the Police Department’s Administration and Support Services Division.
