Leesburg Police Mourn the Passing of Former Police Chief Kidwell

Chief of Police James KidwellThe Leesburg Police Department is mourning the passing of former Chief of Police James Kidwell. Chief Kidwell began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Town in 1961.

Kidwell became Chief of Police in 1972 and served in that role until he retired in 1995 at the age of 55. He leaves a legacy of transformation, growth and innovation to the Leesburg Police Department.

Chief Kidwell died yesterday morning with his wife and children at his bedside.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kidwell family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle SE Leesburg, VA 20175. The funeral will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00 am. Graveside service to follow at Union Cemetery.
