Local Artist Steve Loya Featured in New Airport Art Exhibit
The exhibit will be on display through November 2026.
Local artist Steve Loya presents New Horizons, a collection of recent renderings of imaginary landscapes and seascapes. In addition to acrylic paint, each piece incorporates elements of collage. All of the works feature a sun or moon figure, while some also include text on paper, altered book pages, photocopies, and fortunes from fortune cookies.
Loya said making art has always been a form of therapy. For him, each piece is a form of artistic alchemy—the transformation of ordinary materials, ideas, and experiences into something creative and meaningful.
While deeply personal, Loya said the paintings are also abstract in nature. They are, more or less, mental landscapes that are open to the viewer's interpretation.
Loya’s exhibit will run through November 2026 and can be viewed in person during normal airport hours, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Known for his Splotch Monster series, Loya also creates mixed-media artwork that blends realism and abstraction. His recent work focuses on non-objective acrylic paintings and collage. When he is not creating art, Loya enjoys exploring interesting places throughout the DMV and beyond, including nature trails, museums, unique towns, record and bookstores, and music venues.
