Pop-Up Exhibit at the Donaldson Log Cabin to Explore Leesburg's Sports History
Leesburg, VA (August 28, 2026) – The public is invited to a First Friday pop-up exhibit on September 4, exploring the history of athletics and recreation in Leesburg.
Sports have long been part of life in Leesburg, bringing people together through competition, teamwork, and community pride. From school teams to local leagues, athletics have created lasting memories and have helped shape the community. The exhibit will explore the rise of popular sporting leagues such as an 1870s Leesburg baseball team to the origins of organized horse racing in Loudoun County.
Featured in the pop-up exhibit at the Donaldson Log Cabin will be digitized film reels of Loudoun County High School football games from the 20th century, sports programs and flyers, as well as school yearbooks. The exhibit will also highlight the victories of local teams at the local, state, and national level through historic photos, newspapers, and documents.
The event will be held in conjunction with Leesburg First Friday, with visitors welcome to stop by the Donaldson Log Cabin, located at 14 Loudoun Street SW, between 5 and 7 p.m. Registration is not required.
