Extreme Heat Forces Cancellation of VMFA on the Road Visit

Exhibit canceled after forecasted heat exceeds generator operating limits.

Leesburg, VA (July 3, 2026) – The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) has cancelled its VMFA on the Road visit to Leesburg scheduled for Saturday, July 4, due to forecasted temperatures.

The traveling museum relies on a climate-controlled environment to protect the artwork on display. Because of the expected heat, the generator required to maintain those conditions cannot operate safely and effectively, making it impossible to transport and exhibit the collection.

The VMFA traveling museum was scheduled to be part of the Town's Independence Day celebration at Ida Lee Park, where visitors would have experienced Virginia as America: Navigating Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, an exhibition exploring the nation's founding ideals through works from the VMFA collection.
