Leesburg, VA (July 1, 2026) – The Town of Leesburg is reminding residents and visitors to take precautions during the extreme heat expected on Saturday, July 4, as the community gathers for Independence Day celebrations, including the annual parade, live music, and fireworks.
A heat advisory has been issued due to dangerously high temperatures and increased risk of heat-related illness. Residents attending July 4 events are encouraged to plan ahead, stay hydrated, and take steps to protect themselves and others from the heat.
Residents are encouraged to:
• Drink plenty of water before, during, and after outdoor activities.
• Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and apply sunscreen.
• Check on family members, friends, neighbors, and pets, especially those who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short period of time.
• Recognize the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, confusion, excessive sweating, or fainting, and seek medical attention if symptoms become severe.
The Town’s July 4 parade will take place along King Street at 10 a.m. In the evening, gates will open at 6 p.m. at Ida Lee Park, followed by live music beginning at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring water, stay aware of their surroundings, and take breaks as needed throughout the day.
A bulk water truck will be available behind the gazebo at Ida Lee Park during both events for anyone who needs to refill their water bottles. As the water will not be provided with ice, attendees are asked to plan accordingly.
