VMFADue to the extreme heat, the VMFA traveling museum will not be at the July 4 celebration.

Leesburg, VA (June 29, 2026) – The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) traveling museum and art studio will visit the Town of Leesburg on Saturday, July 4, as part of the Town’s Independence Day celebration at Ida Lee Park.

The 53-foot, climate-controlled Volvo trailer will feature Virginia as America: Navigating Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, an exhibition that explores the American ideals first expressed in the Declaration of Independence and examines their ongoing relevance today.

Drawn from the VMFA collection, the exhibition features 14 works of art—including paintings, prints, and decorative objects—that offer an alternative lens through which to understand our shared history. The works encourage visitors to reflect on the hopes and challenges surrounding the nation’s founding principles and the continued pursuit of a “more perfect union.”

The mobile exhibit will be located on the festival fields during the Town’s annual Independence Day celebration at Ida Lee Park. It will be open to the public from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, visit VMFA on the Road.

Members of the Town’s Commission on Public Art (COPA) and Friends of Leesburg Public Art (FOLPA) will also be on site to share information about Leesburg’s Arts & Cultural District and upcoming arts events. Virginia as America: Navigating Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and curated by Dr. Susan J. Rawles, VMFA’s Elizabeth Locke Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts. The exhibition is presented in recognition of VA250, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States.
