Oral History Presentation on the 250th Anniversary of the Revolutionary War in Loudoun Scheduled for June 11 at Thomas Balch Library

Post Date:06/03/2026 9:51 AM

Leesburg, VA (June 3, 2026) Kenneth Bancroft will present “Reflections on the 250th Anniversary of the Revolutionary War in Loudoun: An Oral History Project” on Thursday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the lower-level meeting Kenneth Bancroft room at Thomas Balch Library.

In May 2023, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors supported the creation of a committee in Loudoun County to organize events for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Bancroft interviewed local history organizations, enthusiasts, and community organizations involved in the Loudoun 250 Committee to create an oral history record of the commemoration for the semiquincentennial. Bancroft will discuss his project, which will be included in the Sound and Moving Image Collections at the Thomas Balch Library.

Bancroft is a public historian in Virginia with a focus on Colonial and Revolutionary War eras. He is the publisher and editor of The Journals of Nicholas Cresswell, a free public history project recreating a daily Revolutionary War diary of Englishman Nicholas Cresswell 250 years later, which is augmented with additional resources and research. Bancroft’s articles and displays on Cresswell were featured on the blog Emerging Revolutionary War and at Thomas Balch Library. He is a co-author of the brochure Preserving Our Heritage: Loudoun’s Revolutionary War Court Records for the Loudoun County Historic Records and Deeds office. He is an active supporter of local history.

The event will be held both in person at the library (208 West Market Street, Leesburg) and virtually. Pre-registration is required. Please call 703-737-7195, email balchlib@leesburgva.gov, or register online at https://tinyurl.com/TBLEvents.
