Leesburg Police Department Announces Appointment of Chris Mongelluzzo to Captain

Leesburg, VA (May 26, 2026) – The Leesburg Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Chris Mongelluzzo to the rank of Captain, where he will serve as the Commander of the Field Operations Bureau.

Captain Mongelluzzo began his law enforcement career with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 before joining the Leesburg Police Department in 2008. Throughout his tenure with the department, he has gained extensive operational and investigative experience through assignments in field operations, crisis negotiations, and field training.

He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2016 and Lieutenant in 2022. As a Lieutenant, Captain Mongelluzzo served in a variety of leadership roles within Field Operations, School Resource Services, Criminal Investigations, and as the department’s K-9 Commander. While serving as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, he oversaw numerous high-profile investigations, working closely with department personnel and partner agencies to ensure thorough, professional, and effective case management. His leadership helped guide complex investigations while maintaining the highest standards of service, accountability, and public trust.

Most recently, Captain Mongelluzzo served as Senior Watch Commander, overseeing patrol operations within the department’s largest division and ensuring performance consistently met department standards and community expectations.

In 2023, Captain Mongelluzzo graduated from the Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS), further strengthening his leadership and organizational management skills. In February 2026, he graduated from Columbia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration, reflecting his continued commitment to professional development, organizational leadership, and public service excellence.

The Field Operations Bureau is the department’s largest division and is responsible for providing 24-hour patrol services, responding to calls for service, proactive policing initiatives, traffic enforcement, and community engagement efforts throughout the Town of Leesburg.

The Leesburg Police Department congratulates Captain Mongelluzzo on his promotion and looks forward to his continued leadership in advancing the department’s mission of service, safety, and community partnership.
