Leesburg, VA (May 22, 2026) – The Town of Leesburg has closed on the purchase of Rock Spring Farm.
Located at 329 Loudoun Street SW at the intersection of Dry Mill Road, Rock Spring Farm is in the Town’s Old & Historic District and was owned by the diZerega/Cook family beginning in 1899. It is considered a heritage site for the Town of Leesburg as it was the location of the original spring for the Town’s water supply and also a stop on the Marquis de Lafayette’s historic visit to Leesburg in 1825. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Many Leesburg residents are familiar with the property as the location of the Town’s famous sledding hill “Meadow Hill” which the Cook family had allowed sledders to use for generations.
At its March 10 meeting, the Town Council approved a purchase agreement for the 13.08-acre property in the amount of $5.775 million. In April, following a public hearing, the Council approved the use of $2,887,500 in data center computer equipment tax reserve funding and $2,887,500 in funding from the Utilities Fund to move forward with the purchase.
The Town Council will hold a discussion on potential uses of the property at a future work session. In the meantime, the property will not be available for public access.
“I am very excited that Rock Spring Farm is now officially Town of Leesburg property,” Mayor Kelly Burk said. “It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase a property with such significant history and nostalgia attached to it, not to mention in close proximity to our historic downtown. I am looking forward to our Town residents making lasting memories on this property for generations to come.”
