Leesburg, VA (May 15, 2026) – The public is invited to view a new exhibit featuring the house that is believed to have saved our nation’s history: Rokeby. 

This exhibit highlights the history and historical significance of Rokeby. The home was believed to play a crucial role in protecting important American documents from destruction during the War of 1812. Thanks to the intuition of Department of State Clerk Stephen Pleasonton, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were kept safe from the fire as Washington, DC, was set ablaze. 

Featured in this exhibit is a painting of Rokeby by P. Buckley Moss; a photograph taken by Winslow Williams; and the signature of Charles Binns II, the First County Clerk of Loudoun County.

The exhibit will be on display along the library staircase leading to the  lower level and in the elevator. The public may view the exhibit through Monday, June 1, during regular library hours: Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
