Leesburg, VA (May 6, 2026) – Thomas Balch Library will host author David Truong for a talk about his debut book, Escape to America: A Family Memoir. The event will be on Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the lower-level
meeting room at the library.
Truong and his family came to Northern Virginia in 1978 as refugees after escaping Communist Vietnam following the fall of Saigon in 1975. He grew up in Fairfax County, where he attended high school and college, and later built his professional career in the region as an attorney working in-house for several organizations in Northern Virginia.
Truong’s connection to Loudoun County began in 2007, when he and a small group of families helped establish the Dulles Church of Christ in Ashburn. In 2009, he moved to Brambleton to work for a telecommunications company at its Ashburn campus. Today, Truong and his family live in Broadlands.
Escape to America: A Family Memoir is Truong’s first book. He wrote the memoir as a tribute to the courage and resilience of his parents and siblings, and to the many individuals whose acts of kindness made survival and resettlement possible. He also wrote the book for his children, so they would understand their family’s history, the sacrifices that shaped their lives, and the enduring privilege and responsibility of being an American.
The event will be held in-person at the library (208 West Market Street, Leesburg). Pre-registration is required. Please call 703-737-7195, email balchlib@leesburgva.gov, or register online at https://www.tinyurl.com/TBLEvents.
