Leesburg, VA (April 10, 2026) – Mayor Kelly Burk, members of the Town Council, Chief of Police Thea Pirnat and leadership from the Town government and Leesburg Police Department commemorated the completion of
the Leesburg Police Station Expansion project in a ribbon-cutting ceremony held this afternoon.
The $28.5 million project began construction in September 2023. The project provided a 14,000-square-foot, one-story addition to the existing Police Department headquarters, which was constructed when the department first moved to its Plaza Street headquarters in 1997. The new building includes a new and inviting lobby area; an upgraded Emergency Communications Center; a 1,300-square-foot fitness center for officers and civilian staff; an open-air courtyard for outdoor recreation and wellness for employees; additional office space, interview rooms, and record rooms.
The project also included renovation and modernization of the existing building, to include expanded and improved locker rooms, including a significant increase in women’s facilities; dedicated quiet and lactation rooms for staff; and an updated meeting room available for use by community groups.
The project also provided the addition of EV charging stations, expansion of the secure parking area, and other site improvements. The design of the project supports a potential 9,000-square-foot second-story addition to the new building in the future.
“This facility is a direct reflection of the people who serve here and the community that supports them. Throughout construction, our team never missed a beat, and today we are better equipped than ever to deliver professional, responsive service to Leesburg,” Chief Pirnat stated.
“As Leesburg continues to grow, investments like this ensure we are keeping pace in thoughtful and responsible ways. This expansion positions our Police Department to meet current demands while also preparing for what lies ahead. It is a long-term investment in service, in connection, and in the quality of life that makes Leesburg such a special place,” Mayor Burk stated.
