Meeting on Leesburg Executive Airport Control Tower Design Scheduled for February 11, 2026

Post Date:02/04/2026 2:03 PM

Leesburg, VA (February 4, 2026) – Staff from the Leesburg Executive Airport and the Town’s Capital Projects Department will host an open house-style, public information meeting to provide an update on design plans for Updated Airport Tower rendering the air traffic control tower project at the Leesburg Executive Airport.

The public information meeting will be held Wednesday, February 11, in the third floor conference room of the Leesburg Executive Airport Terminal Building located at 1001 Sycolin Road SE. The public is invited to stop by anytime between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. to meet the project team, view materials about the tower’s proposed location, and view the new rendering of the control tower.

The public is then welcome to stay for the Airport Commission’s regular monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. where Commissioners will discuss the tower design.

From 2018 through June of 2023, the airport’s air traffic was controlled by a Remote Tower through the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Remote Tower Pilot Program. Following the FAA’s closure of that program a temporary air traffic control trailer has been in use to manage air traffic until the permanent tower facility is complete.

A Siting Study reviewed a total of three locations on airport property and determined that the tower would be best located at the north end of the terminal building. This location was selected based on runway visibility, cost efficiency, and because it poses the least environmental impact compared to the other potential locations.

The majority of the design and construction costs for the project are expected to be funded by FAA and Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) grant programs. The design is estimated to be complete in the spring of 2027 in anticipation of bidding the project and applying for grant funds. The tower is expected to be constructed within the next four years contingent on receiving complete funding from the FAA and DOAV.
