Ida Lee Tennis Bubble Collapses

Post Date:01/25/2026 4:22 PM

Leesburg, VA (January 25, 2026) – A tennis bubble at Ida Lee Park suffered a catastrophic failure Sunday afternoon, collapsing shortly after 2 p.m. Tennis bubble collapse

There were no injuries to members of the public or staff as no one was inside the bubble when it collapsed. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, but from an initial assessment it appears there was a significant tear in the plastic membrane allowing air to escape from the pressurized structure.

The bubble that collapsed was installed in 2022 over what had previously been three outdoor tennis courts.

Staff has been in touch with the bubble manufacturer to work on a plan for repairing the structure. Announcements about changes to class schedules or court reservations will be forthcoming.

Staff is also assessing the condition of the other tennis bubble prior to a decision about reopening Ida Lee Tennis Center. The Tennis Center will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, January 26, pending the completion of the assessment. Further updates will be shared as needed.

The public is asked to avoid the area surrounding the tennis bubble until further notice.
