Leesburg, VA (January 23, 2026) – A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Northern Virginia region, including Leesburg, beginning Saturday evening through Monday morning. Accumulations of up to 12 inches of snow are possible.
Throughout the snowstorm, residents are asked to check the “In the Spotlight” section of the homepage of the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov where updates will be regularly provided on Town government operations, including trash and recycling collection or any changes in next week’s public meeting schedule. Staff will also provide updates at least three times a day on the Town’s Facebook page. News releases will be issued as necessary.
Residents are urged to prepare for the storm by removing vehicles, basketball hoops, and trash cans from roadways to allow snowplows to easily access main roads and neighborhoods. Snow emergency route restrictions will go into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday. All vehicles must be removed from these key Town arteries ahead of the snow emergency routes taking effect or they will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The Town Hall parking garage will remain open with free parking through the duration of the storm. However, parking will be limited as the third level of the garage will be closed. Residents who need to relocate their vehicles due to snow emergency route restrictions are asked to consider the Pennington garage (210 Church Street NE), which is always available and free to use.
During winter storms, Town snow removal crews focus first on high-priority streets and then move to lower-priority secondary streets as conditions allow. Plowing on secondary streets during a storm is intended primarily to provide access for emergency vehicles. After the storm ends, crews will continue working to clear streets to allow for resident ingress and egress. As streets are plowed, snow may be deposited in front of driveways or mailboxes.
Property owners are reminded that sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours following the end of a snow or ice event, and that fire hydrants must be kept clear of snow at all times. When shoveling snow or using a snowblower, please direct snow into yards, not streets or sidewalks.
Whenever a snow emergency is declared, the Town operates a Snow Hotline (703-777-SNOW / 703-777-7669) for residents to ask questions about snow removal operations or report problems. The hotline remains active until the snow emergency is lifted. Snow and ice issues can also be reported to Town staff via an online form.
Residents are also encouraged to take precautions to prevent frozen pipes. If you experience no water throughout your home and it is not a frozen indoor pipe, your water meter may be frozen. Please contact the Leesburg Department of Utilities at 703-771-2750 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., excluding holidays) or the Leesburg Police Department non-emergency line at 703-771-4500 after hours.
