Leesburg, VA (October 22, 2025) – The Leesburg Tree Commission will host a fall tree giveaway on Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The giveaway is part of the
Treesburg initiative, which was
launched April 2024.
Residents are invited to stop by the festival field at Ida Lee Park to claim a free native tree sapling, available while supplies last, in addition to receiving advice from tree care experts.
A selection of locally appropriate, climate-resilient native species will be offered, including:
• Asimina triloba (Pawpaw)
• Cercis canadensis (Eastern Redbud)
• Chionanthus virginicus (Fringe Tree)
• Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel)
• Lindera benzoin (Spicebush)
• Magnolia virginiana (Sweetbay Magnolia)
• Nyssa sylvatica (Black Gum/Tupelo)
• Prunus virginiana (Chokecherry)
• Quercus falcata (Southern Red Oak)
• Quercus macrocarpa (Bur Oak)
Once the tree has been planted, residents will be encouraged to share their planting location, and an image, on the
Treesburg Community Planting Map. Updates can be made annually to track your tree’s growth.
Next week’s event will guarantee at least 270 trees, with planting instructions. Whether you’re looking to add shade, support pollinators, or enhance wildlife habitat, the Town’s Tree Commission and Urban Forestry staff will help you select the right tree for your space.
