In July, the Leesburg Town Council approved the new rotating art exhibit, which aims to showcase the creativity of local artists while providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for travelers arriving at one of the region’s busiest general aviation airports.

The first artist to display their work is Leesburg resident Ninon Estinto, which features watercolors themed to aviation.

“It is an honor to be selected as the first artist on display,” Estinto said. “I’ve loved planes as far back as I can remember when my father, who had been in the Air Force, took me to the airshows as a kid.

In addition, Estinto said she met her husband, who happens to be a pilot, years ago at College Park Airport while looking at planes.

“Hopefully some of my love for flying is conveyed through my paintings," she said.

Estinto studied art while attending the University of Maryland, College Park, and earned her associates artists degree from the Art Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduation, she worked as an illustrator and designer prior to becoming a full-time freelance artist. Clients include the National Geographic Society, Insights Magazine, The University of Pittsburgh, The Order Sons of Italy, and the House Committee on Ways and Means. Estinto said she enjoys working in many mediums including oils, watercolors, and colored pencil.

Her exhibit will run through November and can be viewed in-person during normal airport hours, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Guests may also view the exhibit during the upcoming Leesburg Airshow on Saturday, September 27.

The Leesburg Executive Airport features rotating exhibits by Leesburg and Loudoun artists. Those interested in having their work considered for a future exhibit should contact Leah Kosin, staff liaison to the Commission on Public Art, at lkosin@leesburgva.gov.
