New Playground at Ida Lee Park Unveiled

Post Date:08/13/2025 2:55 PM

Leesburg, VA (August 13, 2025) – Vice Mayor Todd Cimino-Johnson joined with members of the Parks & Recreation and Capital Projects Departments to celebrate the opening of the new small playground in Ida Lee Park on Ida Lee Playground ribbon-cutting Wednesday.

It is the first themed playground overseen by the Town’s Parks & Recreation Department, and is designed for children ages five and under. A play bus invites young children to experience discovery, creativity, and connection with the natural world. Children can climb on a giant caterpillar, zoom down slides, dance and play with musical flowers, and let imaginations soar in the nature clubhouse. Other elements include sensory panels, ramps, and a cocoon spinner.

“We are thrilled to open this new playground featuring fun and exciting elements guided by the public’s input,” stated Parks & Recreation Department Director Rich Williams. “The new design encourages active play and imagination. It’s an investment in the health and happiness for our community’s youngest residents.”

The small playground is located between Ida Lee Park Recreation Center and the A.V. Symington Aquatic Center.
