Mural Artwork - RomeroLeesburg, VA (April 23, 2024) – On Tuesday, the Leesburg Town Council approved the installation of a new mural that will be installed near the entrance of Leesburg Premium Outlets.

The artwork, created by Leilani Romero, depicts the iconic walk down King Street, accompanied by a cup of coffee, man’s best friend, local shops, and architecture. State identifiers include the Virginia Cardinal, American Dogwood, and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. Cherry Blossoms pay homage to the east while an archway that reads, “Leesburg, Virginia” will provide for a colorful selfie photo-opportunity.

“This mural encompasses symbols of what makes our Town of Leesburg one of the favorites in all of Virgina,” Romero said. “I’m honored for the opportunity to create for our community. Leesburg is my home and the home of my business. I'm so grateful to share art that encompasses all the things I love about living here.”

Romero said she is especially looking forward to seeing people interact with the mural, making memories and becoming a part of the art.

“Having been faced with an array of phenomenal artistic endeavors, the Leesburg Premium Outlets team had a challenging task selecting the piece for our mural,” said Paola Zelaya, director of marketing and business development for the outlets. “Nevertheless, Leilani’s design captivated our attention due to its multi-faceted representation of downtown Leesburg and the varied activities it encompasses. We are confident that Leilani's piece eloquently interweaves color and art to precisely convey what the center intends to transmit through this mural.”

This will mark the second mural to be completed pursuant to the Leesburg Private Property Mural Program, which allows for the Town to rent an appropriate exterior wall from a participating property owner for the installation of a mural. The artwork was recommended for approval by the Town Council after review by the Town’s Commission on Public Art. The project will begin once an agreement with the artist is completed and is expected to be completed this summer. The project will be fully funded by Leesburg Premium Outlets.

On March 8, 2022, the Leesburg Town Council approved Resolution No. 2022-030 adopting a limited private property mural pilot program. The Town’s first private property mural was installed in the Virginia Village Shopping Center in December 2022. This is the third year that the program has taken place.
