David Truong and his family came to Northern Virginia in 1978 as refugees after escaping Communist Vietnam following the fall of Saigon in 1975. He grew up in Fairfax County, where he attended high school and college, and later built his professional career in the region as a Virginia attorney working in-house for several organizations in Northern Virginia.
David’s connection to Loudoun County began in 2007, when he and a small group of families helped establish the Dulles Church of Christ in Ashburn. In 2009, he moved to Brambleton, Virginia, to work for a telecommunications company at its Ashburn campus. Today, David and his wife live in Broadlands with their two sons, Ari and Luca, and their dog, Winnie. They remain active members of the Dulles Church of Christ and are engaged in service to both their congregation and the broader community.
Escape to America: A Family Memoir is David’s first book. He wrote the memoir as a tribute to the courage and resilience of his parents and siblings, and to the many individuals whose acts of kindness made survival and resettlement possible. He also wrote the book for his children, so they would understand their family’s history, the sacrifices that shaped their lives, and the enduring privilege and responsibility of being an American.
