Shannon Combs BennettLocal libraries and archives hold treasure troves of information just waiting for someone to discover them. These family history gems are overlooked by most as they are not accessible online and the researcher must visit the repository to perform research. One such gem is the Mott Family Correspondence (ca. 1830-1900) at Thomas Balch Library. This collection is of value to anyone who wants to learn about the Leesburg area before and during the Civil War. It contains descriptions of social activities, family relationships, business transactions, and the beauty of the Loudoun County Countryside. This presentation will focus on how to perform research in family collections at an archive and will showcase some of the findings from the collection.
