The Department of Engineering and Public Works oversees several divisions, including Engineering and Inspections, Street Maintenance and Equipment Maintenance. The department also oversees buildings and grounds, storm drainage systems, parking meters and lots, and refuse & recycling collection.

The Engineering and Inspections Division is responsible for the review of all construction drawings and inspections for developer installed public improvements and the Town’s Capital Improvement Projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and town standards. The division also acts as a referral agency in the subdivision and land development process, directs and coordinates street light installation, issues right-of-way permits, administers the Nuisance Abatement Control Program, and develops and enforces construction standards.  This office also oversee the Town’s Water Quality and Stormwater Management Program.

The Street Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of more than 66 miles of the town street system, including mowing, road repairs, patching, shoulder maintenance, snow removal, striping and pavement parking, sign maintenance, and repairs to the sidewalk, curb and gutter system.  Please contact them at 703-737-7073.
The Equipment Maintenance Division maintains all town-owned vehicles and equipment, including police cars, trucks and tractors, street sweeper, etc. The division also helps maintain traffic signals and performs state inspections of town-owned vehicles.
